USHS Choral Department

The Upper Sandusky High School Choral Department consists of Chamber Choir, Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, and the Upper Class. All four performing ensembles are directed by Mr. David Headings, a graduate of Bluffton College. Chamber Choir is an auditioned choir that consists of 45-50 sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The Chamber Choir has consistently received superior ratings at OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Events since its inception in 1999. Women’s Chorus was formed in the 2008-09 school year and was a great success, achieving a rating of “Excellent” at the OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Event in 2009. The Men’s Chorus was formed for the 2009-10 school year and had similar success, also achieving an “Excellent” rating at their first OMEA District Adjudicated Event. The Upper Class is a vocal jazz ensemble with 16 members plus an accompaniment combo. This group is also auditioned and rehearses after school two nights a week. Upper Class performs for various local events, takes part in Tiffin University’s “Vocal Summit” each spring, and presents a variety show titled “Cabaret” each May.

Upper Sandusky High School also presents a Broadway musical each spring. This year, the musical will be directed by Stacy Barth. The musical for 2013-14 is “Footloose,” based on the 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon.
